Delta is the world's second largest airline. Based in Atlanta, Georgia it carries over 120 million passengers a year and can trace its roots back to an aerial crop dusting company, Huff Daland Dusters which was founded in 1924.

The name Delta comes from the Mississippi Delta after one of the first routes it operated between Dallas, Texas and Jackson in Mississippi. In 1983, Delta's employees and retirees contributed to buy Delta's first Boeing 767-200 to show their appreciation of Delta's management team - the "Spirit of Delta" became the flagship of the fleet.

Shortly before Pan Am declared bankruptcy in 1991, Delta purchased Pan Am's European routes which included all their north Atlantic routes. This gave Delta the largest transatlantic network and today Delta is the world's leading carrier between the USA and Europe with flights to 31 different transatlantic destinations. Delta is America's fastest growing airline and together with Delta Connections it flies to over 300 destinations in 52 countries. As well as a comprehensive route network to Europe, Delta is the second-largest carrier to Latin America and the Caribbean with over 600 weekly flights serving 58 destinations.

In 2000, Delta became a member of Skyteam global alliance along with Air France, AeroMexico and Korean Air and shortly afterwards implemented the largest US domestic alliance with Continental Airlines and Northwest Airlines.

Business Class @ BusinessElite

Delta's current BusinessElite cabin offers an ergonomic recliner-style seat with a recline of 160 degrees and a seat pitch of 60 inches. The cabin is designed to maximise space with a 2:2 configuration. Each seat has a laptop power point, reading light and extra console space to allow passengers to work in comfort.

A new on-demand video entertainment system gives a wide variety of options with over 20 movies, 30 television shows, 100 music albums and games to choose from.

In-flight dining offers a personalised service with an international five-course menu accompanied by a selection of fine wines.

New BusinessElite cabin

Delta will be one of the first US carriers to introduce flat-bed sleeper seats in its international Business Class cabin. The new cabin will make its debut in early 2008 when Delta takes delivery of two new Boeing 777LR aircraft. In Autumn 2008, the remaining Boeing 777 fleet will be refitted with the new seats which will be followed by a refit of Boeing 767 aircraft it is expected that the installation will be completed by 2010.

The new fully horizontal business class will feature a seat which reclines to a fully flat 6 foot 3 inch bed and a privacy screen incorporating meal table and video monitor. An integrated foot rest is provided along with storage compartments for personal items and blankets. All seats will have direct aisle access and an on-demand digital entertainment system.
