Malaysia Airlines - Business class services

The origins of Malaysia Airlines dates back to Malayan Airways who began operating flights from Singapore to Malaysia in 1947 using a five-seater, twin engine Air Consul.
After the independence of Malaya, Malayan Airways became a public limited company which enabled the airline to acquire more aircraft and pioneer new routes outside of Southeast Asia. The jet-era of the 1960s and 1970s made commercial air travel for the masses a reality and in 1960, Malayan Airways flew its first non-stop international service between Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong.
In 1963, the formation of Malaysia resulted in the change to Malaysia Airlines Limited and in 1971 the airline split into two separate airline entities Malaysia Airlines System and Singapore Airlines. The newly named Malaysia Airlines System (MAS) commenced scheduled flights as the national carrier of Malaysia and amalgamated with Borneo Airways.
The 1970s saw rapid growth for MAS with popular business routes to Tokyo, London, Madras and Sydney being launched. With the advance in technology, MAS computerised its entire business and took delivery of the DC10 aircraft, its first wide-bodied jet which resulted in the expansion of its European routes.
In the 1980s MAS was privatised and so began a process of expanding and modernising its business with investment in a new corporate headquarters and maintenance and catering facilities. In 1985, MAS commenced flights to the USA with a service to Los Angeles operating via Tokyo using the new Boeing 747-300 aircraft with an upper deck.
The late 1980s saw the introduction of Malaysia's frequent flyer programme and a change in its corporate identity which resulted in a change of name to Malaysia Airlines. The new name reflected its objectives to increase awareness of Malaysia as an international travel destination.
In April 2001, Malaysia Airlines made history as the first airline in the world to pilot a commercial jet through the recently opened polar routes, flying through inhospitable areas of North Alaska.
Today Malaysia Airlines carries over 50,000 passengers daily to over 100 destinations with an extensive network of flights throughout Southeast Asia, the Far East, Indian Subcontinent, Australasia, North America and Europe.
