Founded in 2004 by Lawrence Hunt, Silverjet is a new and innovative British airline operating an exclusively business class only service. Silverjet operated its inaugural scheduled flight on the 25th January 2007 between London Luton Airport and Newark and has been voted the Best Business Class Only Airline of 2007 by the Conde Nast Traveller Readers' Awards.

Silverjet aims to reduce the stress and inconvenience of modern-day air travel and to recreate the glamour that flying once evoked. The airline has been designed around the needs of its passengers providing exceptional standards of service similar to those you would expect onboard a private jet and unique facilities exclusive to Silverjet passengers. In addition prices start from £999 which is less that half the usual business class return fare to New York.

At Luton Airport, Silverjet has its own private terminal and "Silver Lounge". A concierge service will greet passengers from the kerbside or from the lounge reception area and arrange for their bags to be checked-in whilst passengers relax and make full use of the lounge facilities. Passengers can check-in a mere 30 minutes beforehand with carry-on baggage and 45 minutes prior with bags.

Facilities at the Silver Lounge include freshly prepared snacks and refreshments, free WiFi, a library from which you can select reading material to take onboard with you and shower facilities complete with luxury toiletries and fluffy towels.

Onboard, the Boeing 767 has been transformed with a spacious cabin seating a maximum of one hundred passengers. The comfortable seats are equipped with a back massager, laptop power point and reading light. All seats have very generous leg-room and convert into a 6 foot 3 inch fully reclined bed. Personal on-demand entertainment systems are programmed with over 100 hours of films, current television drama and documentary programmes and a large selection of CDs and music videos.

There are 5 bathrooms onboard, one of which is a woman's only bathroom, all of which are regularly cleaned and restocked throughout the flight. In addition to the traditional luggage lockers, there are also on-board wardrobes to hang coats, jackets and suit-carriers. The Silverjet cabin crew have been carefully selected for their high levels of customer service and passengers are assured of personal attention with a ratio of one cabin crew member to every 10 passengers.

In-flight dining is flexible with a wide choice of freshly prepared food and beverages which are available on demand choose from a four course meal or select a mixture of individual courses. The crew will check if you wish to be woken for breakfast or if you want to take advantage of the "breakfast express" option and take your breakfast away with you.

Silverjet is the first carbon neutral airline in the world and a mandatory carbon offset contribution is included in their ticket price. The carbon offset contributions are invested by a leading climate consultancy company into projects worldwide to ensure that every tonne of carbon dioxide Silverjet uses is matched by one tonne of carbon dioxide saved through climate friendly initiatives. In recognition of this, the Institute of Transport awarded Silverjet with their "Environmentally Aware Airline of the Year" in 2007.

As of the end of September 2007, Silverjet will operate a second daily Luton to Newark service. A third aircraft Boeing 767-200 aircraft has recently been acquired and will be used on a new route between Luton and Dubai commencing in November 2007. Silverjet will be the first business class only airline to operate a non-transatlantic service and the only commercial airline to offer a private terminal for its passengers at both their departure and arrival airports.
