Singapore Airlines - Business class services

The history of Singapore Airlines can be traced back to 1947 when the then Malayan Airways Limited flew an Airspeed Consol from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur. Regular weekly scheduled flights began to Ipoh, Penang and Kuala Lumpur and the airline continued to expand with assistance from BOAC and Qantas Empire Airways.
As the airline expanded, it steadily acquired a new fleet which included the Douglas DC-4 Skymaster, the Lockheed Super Constellation and the de Havilland Comet 4.
The airline's name was changed to Malaysian Airlines in 1963 with the formation of the Federation of Malaysia from the amalgamation of the countries of Malaya, Singapore, Sabah and Sarawak.
In 1972 the airline split into two separate airlines - Singapore Airlines and Malaysian Airline System. This was the catalyst for Singapore Airlines to focus on a new and service-orientated approach to their business. The famous Sarong Kebaya uniform was designed by a French couturier and with the help of a local innovative advertising agency, the iconic "Singapore Girl" campaign was launched. The 1970s saw a rapid expansion in Singapore's route network with flights to many new destinations within Asia, the Indian subcontinent, North America and Europe.
In the 1980's Singapore Airlines continued to build their reputation as a trend-setter with a number of firsts including being the first airline to take delivery of the Airbus A300 Superbus, the Boeing 747-300 Big Top and were the first airline in the world to operate a commercial flight across the Pacific Ocean with the 747-400 Megatop.
The 1990s saw Singapore Airlines revolutionise inflight entertainment and communications with the KrisWorld audio-visual on demand system offering numerous entertainment channels and the KrisFone; the first global sky telephone system.
In 2004, Singapore Airlines began non-stop flights between Singapore and Los Angeles and Newark, another first for the airline and the world's longest scheduled commercial flight with a flight time of around 18 hours.
In October 2007, Singapore Airlines will make history again when it takes delivery of the long-awaited Airbus A380 which will make its debut on a flight from Singapore to Sydney with a record 471 passengers onboard.
Today, Singapore Airlines is one of the most respected airlines in the world operating flights to over 100 destinations in 41 countries across all 5 continents.
